Formed in June 1975 by bassist, singer, and songwriter Lemmy, Motörhead are often considered key in the development of the new wave of British heavy metal, which re-energised heavy metal in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Despite this Lemmy was adamant that they played Rock and Roll and had more of an affiliation with Punk Rockers than with the Heavy Metal scene.

Motörhead ceased to exist as a band when Lemmy died on 28th December 2015.
